Freda Campbell, also known as Freda Massingberd Campbell was an English lady born 4th October 1885. She died on 10th April 1981 at Clos de la Shameen, Ave des Agaves, Roquebrune, Cap Martin, France. I would like to know when she first lived in France (last known in England 1913), and anything about Clos de la Shameen and her time there. She was separated from her husband before moving to France. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Peter.

Hello Peter, "The Plantagenet roll of Royal Blood" https://en.geneanet.org/archives/ouvrages?action=detail&book_type=livre&livre_id=10923488&page=563&name=MASSINGBERD+CLARK&with_variantes=1 indicates that Freda Massingberd born Oct 4, 1885 is the daughter of Percy Leith Hay CLARK and Alice Louisa LANGTON MASSINGBERD. Would CAMPBELL then be her husband's name? Sincerely, Amelie

. . Bien attentivement, Lysiane Ruelle

Hello Amelie and Lysiane. Thank you for your responses. Yes, Freda Leith-Hay Clark married James Alexander Campbell. As they were not married until 1911, the arrival of the Campbell family in Roquebrune in 1909, would not have been Freda and James. I will certainly try 'Gallica'. Thanks.

Hello Peter, On the BNF Gallica website, you have access to local news, such as MENTON & MONTE CARLO NEWS, which ran from before 1913 to roughly 1933. By reading this newspaper (in English!), you'll be able to get an idea of the milieu in which Freda lived. Sincerely, Amelie P.S. There is also an association: Cercle de Généalogie de Roquebrune et du Mentonnais, which might be of some help to you.

Thank you Amelie. I have just contacted Cercle de Généalogie de Roquebrune et du Mentonnais with my query. I have started to look at the newspaper that you suggested on BNF Gallica, and I am sure I will find something of interest. It does not seem that I can search within the newspaper. Am I correct?

Amelie. I have now found how to search within a newspaper in BNF Gallica.

. . Bonne fin de semaine Lysiane Ruelle
