Freke Dilkes Hore was married in 1783. At the time he lived in St. Omer, but I do not know if this is where he was married. I would like to know details of this event, and in particular who he married, and any information about her. Many thanks.

Hello Peter, I searched for marriage in 1783 in Saint-Omer. It was celebrated in the Saint-Jean-Baptiste parish on September 17, 1783. You will find it here (left page) : register n°5 MIR 765/5 and page 618/1390. Here is the link: http://archivesenligne.pasdecalais.fr/v2/ark:/64297/0a4a0778001a46c50b65ba7d7797dcf3 Here is the translation : On September 17, 1783, after the publication of a marriage ban made during the parish mass, having obtained a dispensation from the two others, from Mr. GROUT, vicar general, having encountered no impediment, all formalities observed, I, the undersigned priest, gave the nuptial blessing to Mr Fréderic DELKIS HORE, English major, widower of Mrs Marianne NUGENT, and to Anne Marie Josephe MOULIN, aged twenty seven, daughter of Antoine Joseph and Marie-Thérèse MOREL, both from this parish. The witnesses were Antoine Joseph MOULIN, father of the bride, Jean François Prosper MOULIN, brother of the bride, Charles Louis Joseph MOULIN, brother of the bride, Jacques Koseph LOQUETY, friend who all signed. For your information, this couple had children. I'm looking for baptism records. Corinne

Here is the 2nd child: Jacques Frédéric Florimond HORE was born on April 9, 1786 and baptized the next day. The baptismal certificate is found in the same register page 254/939. (top right) There is no new information. This child died on August 16, 1786. (see the act page 290/939 bottom right) I'll see if I can find any other information. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy reading these documents. Corinne

I don't know if you were aware of the death certificate of Frédéric HORE's first wife. You will find the burial certificate in register no. 5 MIR 765/5 of the parish of Saint-Jean-Baptiste page 606/1390. She died on February 14, 1783 aged around 47. She is originally from Finglass near Dublin in Ireland. In addition to her husband, Jacques STUART, knight of Saint-Louis, and Guillaume WILKINSON, President of the Royal English College in Saint-Omer were also present at her funeral. Hello Corinne. I am most grateful for your prompt response and everything you have found. As usual, the information leads to further questions, and I hope you may be able to help again. Apparently, the marriage was viewed by many as disgraceful, and I am interested to find out why. So are you able to say how old Freke Dilkes Hore was when he married, and can you find anything more about the background of his bride. (In the baptism record of the first child his wife is described as LADY Anne Marie Josephe Moulin. Is the term 'lady' an indication of her status? Thank you once again. Peter.

Good evening Peter, I understand your request but I cannot answer it “completely”! For the moment, I have not researched his wife's ancestors. I looked for what might have become of them and perhaps find them elsewhere in France. Which is the case ! Anne Marie remarried on 28 germinal year 4 (i.e. April 17, 1796) with Pierre Joseph GUILLOU in the commune of "La Bassée" in the Nord department (France) Here is the link to the marriage certificate: https://archivesdepartementales.lenord.fr/ark:/33518/gcp4xl78jrkm/99e763af-c1e5-4b70-84fc-b5fb861a561c Register n°5 Mi 040 R 010 - page 444/1003 (at the bottom of the left page) In this act, it is specified that the wife is "widow of Frederic HOR, English origin, died in this town" For information, she is a merchant. So I looked up the death certificate. Here it is : https://archivesdepartementales.lenord.fr/ark:/33518/gcp4xl78jrkm/77ea2d9c-5284-498d-906b-4d55158d6b52 (on the left page) He is 65 years old, and is a native of the commune of Arques in Pas de Calais. (it’s next to Saint-Omer). He would therefore have been born around 1730. When he married in Saint-Omer in 1783 he was 53 years old and married a young girl of 26 years old. Perhaps it was this age difference that made this marriage “disgraceful”? I will continue this research this weekend. Perhaps I will find other information concerning Anne Marie Josèphe MOULIN. Good evening to you. Corinne

Thanks Corinne, that is really helpful. The age difference may well have been an issue. His daughter who also lived in Saint Omer was about three years older than her new stepmother. It was said that after the marriage 'Frederic' was ashamed to face his friends which makes me think that perhaps there was another issue involved with the marriage or his bride. I look forward to seeing if you are able to discover anything about Miss Moulin or her family. I appreciate your time and effort.

Hello Peter, Here is information concerning the parents and brothers and sisters of Anne Marie Joseph MOULIN. His parents, Antoine Jsoeph MOULIN and Marie Thérèse MOREL married on 07/07/1744 in St Omer (Sainte Marguerite parish - document page 689/1131)http://archivesenligne.pasdecalais.fr/v2/ark:/64297/314380ee72e290db0b955bebe34b71cc You will notice that the spouses and witnesses sign. The wife's parents are Nicolas François MOREL and Pétronille POPULAR. His father was a tobacco manufacturer and then a greaser. (mentions indicated in the marriage certificates of the bride's sisters) Concerning the groom, one of his brothers is a carpenter and the other a shoemaker. Antoine Joseph will be a tobacco manufacturer like his father-in-law then will become a mason. They will have (at least) 9 children. Jean-François Prosper ° 09/16/1747 Ste Marguerite parish - document page 931/1131 (same register as the parents' marriage) He will marry in Watten (North department) on 06/20/1786. Henriette Thérèse ° 12/26/1748 (p 1047/1131) + 01/31/1749 (1056/1141). Jacques Joseph Marie ° 04/09/1751 (still parish of Ste Marguerite p140/1426 http://archivesenligne.pasdecalais.fr/v2/ark:/64297/a46915245add2081cfcefa1ff09972af He died on 11/19/1753 (St Jean parish - page1140/1264) http://archivesenligne.pasdecalais.fr/v2/ark:/64297/a4233a98c61ace1675ec8aeba7c5b7c5 In the same register, we find the following births: Jeanne Joseph on the 26th /12/1752 (page 1117/1264). Marie Thérèse Augustine ° 11/28/1757 (p 1240/1264) + 12/05/1759 (page 24/1390 http://archivesenligne.pasdecalais.fr/v2/ark:/64297/85b88d051fea649564688dcc25f9673d Charles Louis Joseph ° 07/26/1759 (p16/1390) He married in Lille (St Etienne parish on 02/14/1786 with Henriette Angélique CUIGNET. He is a "companion" sculptor. And finally Louise Françoise ° 10/ 09/1760 (p 42/1390). I did not find the birth of Anne Marie Joseph. In his 3rd marriage, the date was specified as 17/12/1757 but I did not find it. And as she has a sister born in November 1757... it is therefore not possible! However, I found her as godmother for a cousin's baptism. She must be around 12 years old and she knows how to sign! ° 07/14/1768 St Jean parish page 237/1390. http://archivesenligne.pasdecalais.fr/v2/ark:/64297/efc972c94ae695a9d9dfe0bac26919e3 Here are all my finds. Happy reading and have a good evening. Corinne

Hello Corinne. Thank you once more for the detailed information regarding Anne Marie Joseph Moulin's family. Some time in the future I expect to have images of two documents written in c1785. These are affidavits by Charles Louis Joseph Moulin and Jeanne Joseph Moulin, concerning Dilkes Hore. Would it be too much to ask for you to translate them? I don't know if I am able to attach them to a message on this site.

Hello Peter, I am late to answer your question... unfortunately, on this website, it is not possible to attach a file. Maybe you can help yourself with Google translation? Have a good weekend. Corinne.

Hello Corinne, Thanks for that. Because the documents are the original ones, hand written in 1785, I assumed that there would not be software to translate them, but I will look into this. Peter.
